Spanish nationality. Born in 1960 in Santander.

She joined the board of directors in 1989 and she was appointed Executive Chairman in 2014.

Graduate in Economics from the Bryn Mawr College (Pennsylvania, USA).

She joined Banco Santander after a period at JP Morgan (New York, 1980-1988) and in 1992 she was appointed senior executive vice president. Between 1992 and 1998 she led the expansion of Santander in Latin America. From 2002 to 2010 she was executive chairman of Banesto, such entity being commended as the Best Bank in Spain by Euromoney for three consecutive years during that period. From 2010-2014 she was CEO of Santander UK, where she led the transformation of three former building societies into one of Britain’s most innovative banks.

Since 2014 she has led a cultural, commercial and technological transformation of the Group, focused on boosting customer trust and loyalty. Under her leadership, Santander has established a clear purpose: to help people and businesses prosper in a way that is simple, personal and fair. The Group is committed to acting responsibly on behalf of its employees, customers, shareholders and the communities where it operates.

Her commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth is reflected in her philanthropic activities. She is the founder and Chair of CyD Foundation, which supports and promotes the contribution made by Spanish universities to economic and social development in the country, and Empieza por Educar Foundation, the Spanish subsidiary of the international NGO Teach for All which trains talented young graduates to be teachers.

Born in 1960 in Leon, Spain.

Graduate in Economics and Business Administration. Earned an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Joined the Bank in 2002 and was appointed group chief financial officer in 2004.

He was also a board member at SAM Investment Holding Limited, Santander Consumer Finance, S.A. and Santander Holdings USA, Inc. and a member of the supervisory boards of Santander Consumer AG, Santander Consumer Holding GMBH, and Bank Zachodni WBK, S.A. Furthermore, he served as a board member of Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME).

Born in 1959 in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Mr Carnegie-Brown holds an M.A. degree in English Language and Literature from Oxford University.

Other significant positions: Currently, he is the non-executive chairman of Moneysupermarket.com Group plc and Lloyd's of London. Previously, he was non-executive director of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc (2016-2017), non-executive director of Santander UK Group Holding Ltd (2014-2017), non-executive director Santander UK, plc. (2012-2017), non-executive director of Aon UK Ltd (2012-2015), founder and managing partner of the listed private equity division of 3i Group plc., President and CEO of Marsh Europe. Furthermore, he was lean an independent coordinating advisor to Close Brothers Group plc (2006-2014) and Catlin Group Ltd (2010-2014). Prior to that, he spent at JPMorgan Chase for eighteen years and at Bank of America for four years.

Former Chief Executive Officer of Banco Santander and current Executive Vice President and Chairman of Santander Spain. Has served as board member, as Chairman and as chairperson, in a number of industrial and financial companies.

He was appointed to the Board of Directors of Inditex on 15 July 2014 and re-elected on 17 July 2018.

Holds a degree in law from Universidad de Deusto and a joint degree in Business Administration and Law from the E-3 programme at ICADE. He is a state attorney.

He currently is vice-chairman of the Fundación de Estudios Financieros and serves on the board of trustees and the executive committee of Fundación Banco Santander.

Other significant positions: He has held various positions at the Citibank Group, including CEO of Citibank Brazil and various senior positions in the US with respect to the consumer finance, private banking and Latin American businesses. He was a member of the board of AMBEV. S.A., Gol Linhas Aéreas, S.A. and of Duratex, S.A. He has been chairman of WorldWildlife Group (WWF) Brazil, member of the board of WWF International and chairman and member of the audit and asset management committees of FUNBIO (Fundo Brasileiro para a Biodiversidade).

Other significant positions: Mr Fernández has also served on the board of Anheuser-Busch Companies, LLC and Televisa S.A.C.V., among others. Currently, he serves as a non-executive director of Inmobiliaria Colonial, S.A. and member of the Supervisory Board of AmRest Holdings, SE.

Ms Romana serves as a non-executive director at Aviva plc, London and of Aviva Italia Holding spa, as well as a member of the advisory board of the Foundation Rafael del Pino and co-chair of the Global Board of Trustees of The Digital Future Society.

Other significant positions: Ms Romana was the executive vice president for Economic Policy and head of the Spanish Treasury of the Ministry of Economy of the Spanish government. She also served on the boards of the Bank of Spain and the Spanish National Securities Market Commission. A former board member at the Instituto de Crédito Oficial and other entities on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Economy. She served as non-executive director of Banesto and executive chairman of the Company for the Management of Assets Proceeding from Restructuring of the Banking System (SAREB).
